Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple's pond- 'potramarai kulam' was in heavy scarce of water for the past few years . A group experts from IIT Madras arrived and examined about the problem. They found that the concrete floor restricts the pond from retaining the water. Various soil samples were taken from canals around Madurai in which they found one specific type of soil retains water effectively. So the experts were awarded for restoring water in the famous 'potramarai kulam'.
